Charitable giving

Alliance Boots is committed to supporting worthwhile causes that benefit the communities we serve. During the year the Group made charitable cash donations totalling £1.5 million, compared to £2.0 million in 2007/08. The Group has no affiliation to any political party or group in any country and makes no political donations.

In addition to supporting partner organisations financially, we believe it is vital to assist them by building awareness of their mission and goals, and by inspiring our customers and employees to become involved.

We believe that our partnerships with non-profit organisations make a positive impact on the lives of our neighbours, our communities and our society. Our dedication to helping others is evident in the activities of our retail stores, distribution centres and offices. Alliance Boots is proud to be a Group that is dedicated to caring and making a difference in the communities we serve.

Businesses within Alliance Boots provide funding to support small local projects through regional, national and international activities. We are very aware of our responsibilities at both a local level to the communities we serve and at the national levels in which we operate.

Alliance Healthcare Russia donations to Shelter for Childhood

Alliance Healthcare Russia continues to work closely with the charity Shelter for Childhood. The charity supports the role of the family in society, by protecting the interests of children, mothers and fathers, preventing homelessness and neglect and promoting self-improvement and healthy living.

Donations from Alliance Healthcare Russia are helping the charity to create a rehabilitation complex for children and teenagers considered to be at risk, including shelters for women under the age of 18 who have had children and find themselves in difficult circumstances.

Boots Charitable Trust

Boots Charitable Trust is an independent registered charity in the UK wholly funded by the Group. The Trust provides financial support to charities and voluntary organisations working in the areas of health, education, community development and social care, in Nottinghamshire, the home county of Boots UK. Since the early 1970s the Trust has donated over £9 million. In 2008/09, over £270,000 was donated by the Trust to over 50 charities and voluntary organisations.

Partnering with cancer charities

A large proportion of our UK Health & Beauty customers and employees are women and the things that matter to them matter to us. That is why Boots UK chose to work with two UK charities focused on the women’s cancer cause. Breast Cancer Care provides information as well as practical and emotional support for anyone affected by breast cancer. During 2008/09, Boots UK raised over £670,000 for Breast Cancer Care, of which around £400,000 was raised through customers and employees. The Eve Appeal is the only charity in the UK which funds research into all four gynaecological cancers, and over the last two years we have donated over £1 million to their appeal.
