Supplier verification

Our customers are increasingly interested to know where the products they buy come from and how they have been made. Over the last few years we have reviewed suppliers in more than 25 countries to assess their ethical and environmental performance. We have now conducted over 1,100 audits of suppliers, instigating follow-up actions appropriate to managing each situation.

Alliance Boots has always demonstrated that we take our responsibility for people, the environment and the local communities in which we operate very seriously.

Boots UK has further developed its supplier verification programme to incorporate other aspects of the sustainability agenda, such as the local environment, carbon management and use of natural resources. As a result, Boots UK took the decision in March 2009 not to renew its membership of the Ethical Trading Initiative.

The Ethical Trading Initiative continues to be a valuable resource for the promotion and development of labour standards, and Boots UK has worked with them for the past six years to develop and improve the labour conditions of workers throughout the world.

Boots UK continues to set itself new goals to improve sustainability within its supply chain and as a result has now established a close working relationship with Business in the Community, who will ensure that Boots UK continues to develop its approach and will provide independent monitoring of this activity.
