Case study: The Business in the Community Business Action on Health Leadership Team

Alliance Boots continues to be closely involved with the Business in the Community Business Action on Health Leadership team, which is chaired by Alex Gourlay, Chief Executive, Health & Beauty Division. Business Action on Health is a campaign which aims to highlight the business benefits of better health at work and to make reporting on workplace health issues commonplace in boardrooms. The lessons learnt from our involvement will continue to be shared across the Group through our network of corporate social responsibility ‘champions’.

Our principal businesses are committed to implementing healthcare initiatives relevant to their people. These include healthy eating and fitness programmes as well as healthy heart campaigns. In Norway, our employees are subsidised to purchase bikes and during 2008 a bike-to-work competition was organised. In Russia, Alliance Healthcare Russia provides a doctor who visits the head office in Moscow once a week to give employees the opportunity to book a consultation and get medical advice.
