In total there were six environmental incidents during 2010/11 (five high impact and one low impact), none of which have led to prosecution. Below are the details of these, all of which are mentioned as part of GRI methodology:

A noise nuisance order was issued at our Boots UK store in Poole. This related to early morning deliveries. The delivery time has now been changed and no further action is expected.
Contaminated drinking water system at our Boots UK store in Manchester Trafford. The Boots incident management procedure was invoked and, as a precautionary measure, 65 employees attended hospital, with one detained (for less than 24 hours) for observation. No employees suffered any ill effects. The incident was reported to the authorities, no action taken by the Health & Safety Executive.
A formal notice served at our Boots UK store in Worthing. This related to escaped waste from a general waste bin, being placed onto a public path for collection, when collection was not due. The waste bins have now been fitted with locks to prevent waste from escaping the bins and bins are put out for collection on the designated collection day. No further action is expected.
A formal notice served at our Boots UK store in Kingsway. A local council inspection identified bags of waste left out for collection before the appointed time. No waste had escaped the bags and collection times have been changed to prevent further incidents. No further action is expected.
Following a local council inspection in the area of our Boots UK store in Burnely, waste was identified in a local resident’s garden. It was established that the waste had been stolen from a general waste bin located at the rear of the store. The council disposed of the waste and an additional lock was fitted to the relevant waste bin. No further action is expected.
