Alliance Boots to appoint Group Chief Executive

The Board of Alliance Boots announces that it is to appoint Andy Hornby as Group Chief Executive with effect from 1 July 2009. In this new role, he will report to Stefano Pessina, Executive Chairman, who will continue to work full-time leading the Group, including chairing both the Board and the Group Executive Committee.

Andy Hornby has considerable retail and marketing experience, having been at ASDA where he held a number of senior general management roles including Managing Director of George, its clothing business. He went on to lead the retail divisions of Halifax and then HBOS, before becoming successively Chief Operating Officer and Chief Executive of HBOS up until its takeover by Lloyds TSB Group. Andy has an MA from Oxford and worked with Boston Consulting Group prior to obtaining an MBA at Harvard Business School. He is a non-executive director of Home Retail Group.

Stefano Pessina comments: “Both KKR and I are very pleased that Andy is joining the Group. We, together with our executive colleagues, believe that his collaborative management approach aligns with our values, culture and team spirit. Whilst the existing management structure will continue unchanged, his appointment will enable me to dedicate even more of my time and energy to the development and growth of Alliance Boots. Andy’s wealth of retail and marketing experience will be an invaluable asset for the company, complementing our existing skills and expertise.”
